Traditionally, anthropometric data are captured physically by trained anthropometrists, using various tools and in strict accordance with defined protocols. ThisPart (I)briefly reviews the literature on the key concepts of kinanthropometry and anthropometry. It also describes different physical measurement protocols and the advantages and disadvantages of traditional anthropometry. An understanding of these concepts is vital for large-scale anthropometric survey planning, especially since most surveys to date have relied largely on traditional anthropometric measurement.
