This study examines the differences in crime victimisation between sexual and gender minorities (identified as LGBTQ+) and the general population in Aotearoa New Zealand. We (a) compare the risk of victimisation between LGBTQ+ individuals and non-LGBTQ+ individuals, controlling for differences in sociodemographic characteristics, and (b) assess the differences between LGBTQ+ and non-LGBTQ+ individuals in their crimevictimisation-related interactions with public agencies, e.g., mental health providers, police, or Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC). For our empirical research, we use the New Zealand Crime and Victims Survey (NZCVS), which has been integrated into the Integrated Data Infrastructure (IDI)—Stats NZ's administrative research database that consolidates information from a wide range of public agencies.
