The exegesis, The Problem of the Warrior Woman explores the lack of female warriors in contemporary fiction and how the notion of what makes a hero if the protagonist is a woman. It also explores some of the many problematic ways in which women have been portrayed in relation to guns, while also acknowledging that woman in front line combat is a relatively recent phenomenon, and how fiction about women in combat is still in its infancy. The exegesis was written in response to the creative thesis, The Girls’ Gun Club a novel about a group of mothers who take up shooting.en_NZ
