dc.description.abstractMobile technologies are deeply embedded in the daily lives of young people. The ubiquity, portability and functionality of these devices present new opportunities for enriching learning. Yet, to date there has been little theory development to guide the application of location-based technologies (LBT) in informal learning environments. To address this gap, we propose to (1) develop an IS design theory for the application of LBTs for education in cultural institutions, (2) pioneer the use of advanced combinatorial methods to improve the technical design process, and (3) instantiate the resulting IS design theory within two leading Australian cultural institutions. The findings will inform policy and the future use of LBT for education.en_NZ
