Abstract
Perfect Love, Perfect Selfishness is a short digital film that explores as its subject the enmity that can grow within a disintegrating co-dependent relationship, which is represented by gestural movements derived from dance improvisation.
Perfect Love, Perfect Selfishness narrative is inspired by the concept of co-dependency and the project investigates and experiments with visual language to represent the emotional and psychological trauma that consumes the union of the film’s protagonists .. It is heavily influenced by the theme of expressionism and its aesthetics which is subjectively defined in relation to this project and is informed by the work of expressionist animator Chris Landreth and surrealist filmmaker Jan Svankmajer. Perfect Love, Perfect Selfishness work process is supported by the methodology of Pina Bausch and Martha Graham’s Lamentation (1930) which developed a collaborative workshop environment.
