This thesis project explores the artistic potential for ornamentation by re-conceptualising and re contextualising it through a fine art painting practice. It seeks to place ornamentation as a valid, viable and contemporary subject and critiques the historical debasement of ornamentation within progressive fine art contexts, in particular the developmental history of western aesthetics. A practice-based research approach is taken using the medium of paint.en_NZ
