Motivated by both the increasing popularity of Web 2.0 technologies and the lack of empirical studies to conceptualize and validate their roles in the work place, in this research we aim to establish a research model to capture how Web 2.0 technologies can enhance individual work performance. Grounded on the Media Synchronicity Theory, we introduce an indigenous Chinese concept, guanxi network (which refers to the web of inter-personal connections), and suggest its mediating role with respect to the use of Web 2.0 technologies in enhancing communication and work performance. The survey data from 179 work professionals in China supported the proposed model. Key findings, implications and future research are discussed.en_NZ
