Abstract
Post-eruption 2022 swath bathymetry of Hunga, collected using WASSP DRX-46 (80 kHz) Multibeam Echosounder (MBES).
The data included here includes post-eruption swath bathymetry of Hunga volcano and surroundings, acquired during several surveys, including: i) May 2022, on M/V Pacific Horizon, using a WASSP DRX-46 (80 kHz) MBES (summit plateau and upper flanks); and ii) October 2022, on M/V Pacific Dawn, using a WASSP DRX-46 (80 kHz) MBES (summit area).
All bathymetric datasets were corrected for heading, depth, pitch, heave and roll. Post processing was conducted using QPS Qimera software (V 2.3.5), and all processed MBES datasets were gridded at a 10-m horizontal resolution. Corrections for sound velocity were made using direct measurements during survey and from sound velocity profiles calculated from conductivity-temperature-depth (CTD) vertical profiles.
These datasets were used in the study of the submarine volcano Hunga (Tonga), and are included in the scientific peer-review publication of “Rapid submarine caldera collapse during the 2022 climactic eruption of Hunga volcano (Tonga)” in the journal Nature Geosciences
