Developed as part of AUT’s postgraduate course Marine Resources Sustainability, the booklet was created through student-led fieldwork, specimen collection, and species descriptions. Each seaweed entry reflects the students’ contributions to documenting local marine biodiversity. The herbarium specimens generated through the project have been formally lodged with East Coast Seaweeds NZ, whose continued support—together with guidance from Paul Houston and Simone Rankin—helped anchor the work in local knowledge and coastal practice. The guide offers an accessible resource for communities, visitors, and researchers interested in the rich seaweed flora of Aotearoa’s East Coast.Copyright (c) 2025 Lindsey White; Stevie Wilton, Thomas Smith, Pippa Sommerville, Caitlyn Ryan-Watson, Natasha Gee-Miller, Jessica Roach, Felicity Simmons.
