Through an exercise of the poetic, Eve and Medusa are invoked in full embrace of their joy and suffering. The writing performs a series of escapes from the economy of the patriarchal text, giving rise to alternative possibilities that lie dormant in the margins of the two myths: a shadow-reading. Drawing on Cixousian imagery of the orange, the gaze, the night, seas and serpents, and flight, this chapter makes a case for the mythical woman’s unceasing and jubilant arrival into the world. This is an Accepted Manuscript of a book chapter published by Routledge/CRC Press in The Routledge Companion to Eve on 25 September 2023, available online: https://www.taylorfrancis.com/books/edit/10.4324/9781003132332/routledge-companion-eve-caroline-blyth-emily-colganEve Meets MedusaChapter in BookOpenAccess10.4324/9781003132332-25
