PPCs are a leading cause of morbidity, with reported incidence of 15% to over 40%, depending on patient risk factors, surgical characteristics, and PPC definition (1,2). Despite advances in surgical techniques, anaesthetic management, and enhanced recovery after surgery pathways, PPCs continue to be associated with longer hospital stays, higher healthcare costs, and reduced quality of life (2,3).Open Access - Creative Commons CC BY-NC-ND 4.0Thoracic surgeryinspiratory muscle trainingpostoperative pulmonary complications (PPCs)prehabilitationventilatory efficiency32 Biomedical and Clinical Sciences3202 Clinical SciencesPatient Safety6.4 Surgery1103 Clinical Sciences3201 Cardiovascular medicine and haematologyPrehabilitation in Thoracic Surgery: Strong Signal or Surgical Confounding?Journal ArticleOpenAccess10.21037/jtd-2026-1-0119
