Abstract

The purpose of the study is to examine the relationships between New Zealand social structures and Chinese international students’ social practices. The research concentrates on the social experiences of Chinese international students at Auckland University of Technology (AUT). Chinese international students’ daily social practices reflect their common strategy in fitting into New Zealand society. By analysing the linkages between their collective behaviours and common social identity, the structural weaknesses associated with Chinese international students’ problem behaviours can be revealed. Information provided by questionnaires is the main approach of the study. The outcomes of the research can help policy makers to develop more effective pastoral care for international students.
