This is a practice-based thesis set in the context of fashion photography. It argues that the fashion photographer is obliged to fulfill the commercial needs of each assignment and that the boundary set by the client contributes to challenge the photographer to further pursue a creative output, rather than restricting his practice. In this project, positioning myself as a photographer, I suggest and establish the concept of In-Between-Ness and explore a framework to locate a balance between commercial obligations whilst extending my personal creative achievements through my professional practice, thus instilling new meanings or values or associating new trends with the fashion commodity.

Informed by the concept of bricolage as a methodological approach, together with my practical approach of In-Between-Hesitation, I practice vigorously by questioning, challenging and reflecting to develop a series of fashion images. This series of works represents an analytical, open-ended visual discourse that negotiates a philosophical balance that sits between commercial obligations and personal creative interests.
